In the spring of 2004, the country witnessed the resignation of the president who came to power following a coup d'état in 1977.
The new president, James Michel, inherited a country which is one of the wealthiest in Africa.
Tourism is an important economic factor, due to the beautiful photos of the archipelago (an image of an island paradise which is widely used); the goods and services which are available are comparable with the services which are offered throughout Europe or the USA.
The industrial sector, which is dominated by fishing, is healthy and supplies the archipelago with 30% of total economic activity. The canning factories employ a large number of local workers and fishermen.

Companies
Forming a company : The most suitable fiscal medium is the International Business Company (IBC).
The companies which are formed cannot undertake gainful activity or hold property on the Seychelles. They cannot engage in insurance or re-assurance activities or in banking or fund management (other than those of the company). The company cannot offer its shares for sale to the public.
A company which is formed in the Seychelles has the same legal attributions as an individual.
Two companies which are formed in the Seychelles cannot hold the same name or a similar name. Company names which include the words Insurance, Royal or Imperial are prohibited.
Your company name may be in the language of your choice but must be accompanied by a French or English translation.

International Business Company (IBC) :
Companies which are formed in the Seychelles usually comprise of a capital of 5,000.00 US$. This constitutes a maximum for payment of the lowest government tax.

An IBC company is not subject to local taxation. It is not necessary for certified accounts of the company's activities to be submitted to the authorities.
Authorised suffixes are Limited, Corporation, Incorporated, public limited company or their abbreviations.
Other suffixes such as BV, Gmbh, SARL may be used.
In addition, the names of economic beneficiaries are not published.
